Description
LOAN ONLY (Advertised on behalf of his owners) 12.2hh rising 18yo Welsh sec B gelding Despite being 18 Squirrel does not know this and shows no signs of slowing down hence why we are looking for a new small jockey for him. He has been hopelessly outgrown and while we would love to keep him here forever, he loves to be out competing and doing stuff so we feel it is best to find him somewhere where he can go out and do this while he still wants to. However, we are in no rush, and he will absolutely only be going to a home suited to him. He has been in the same home for the last 3 years where he has taken a young boy from a riding school to competing up to 80cm in eventing and show jumping. He is correctly schooled and works well into a contact in all 3 paces when ridden correctly and scores high 60%/low 70% (high 20s/low 30s eventing) in prelim level tests. But his main love is jumping. He is a winning machine at 60/70 SJ but he is also perfectly capable of successfully stepping up to 80 with the right rider. He has jumped courses with us of 80/85 and single fences up to 1m at home. Always in the placings as he can turn on the spot and jump off any stride while still being super careful. Happy to help his rider out with strides. While he hasn’t evented since 2021 due to rider focusing on his 14.2hh he also excelled in this with placings in the Horse Events 70 series and a win in the 70 at Beaufort Hunt Pony club event leading from start to finish on a 29.2 dressage in September 2021. He is fit and ready to go and recently won the 70cm combined training at Cherwell finishing on his 68% dressage and picked up a 4th in the pairs arena xc at Dallas Burston. However, he is NOT a first pony and we want to be completely honest about his flaws to find him the best home for him. He is fast and therefore for small children can be strong. He is never nasty but wants to get on with the job. He also can be spooky (not at fillers or fences just at a different coloured leaf in the bush in typical welshie style!). Again, never anything nasty but he is a sensitive pony and because of this he is looking for a confident rider to allow him to go forwards. He is looking for a rider who is ready to go out jumping not someone who is going to spend 6 months learning to canter as he will get bored and that is when he will find things to spook at. Squirrel is looking for a confident little person, who wants to go fast and win as much as he does, to love him and be his best friend. He is super to hack out alone and in company and has even had more novice riders hack him in walk and trot and has been foot perfect. He is good with farrier/vet/dentist/clip etc. and is up to date with vaccinations, dentist and has had regular physio. He has been handled on the ground by children and is very good but can be fidgety if there are no other horses around. He loads and travels very well. Ideally, we would like him to stay within an hour of Banbury, Oxfordshire as we would like potential loaners to come and try him multiple times to ensure we have the correct match. We are happy to consider short or longer term loan with possibility to stay at current yard too for the right rider. All potential homes will be vetted and there will be a loan contract in place. We have literally thousands more photos and videos of everything and references from instructors/Pony club available on request.
