- Sadly looking for a new home. Ruby 15year old part bred appaloosa. Ruby is a lovely pony and we have owned her for the past 2 years taking my daughter off the lead rein when she was 5 years old. Ruby is responsive to legs and doesn’t need any kicking just a little squeeze but has good brakes. My daughter loves riding her because she can get her into all 3 paces easily without the huge kick. Will change up and down paces to suit rider. Since having ruby she has done hacking, pc, showing, dressage, jumping with us. Only reason for sale is my daughter now wants to jump bigger and we feel Ruby’s love is more showing, hacking and flat work with the odd bit of jumping and pony club we have done courses of 50 with her but feel this is her max and she prefers smaller courses. Ruby is bomb proof out hacking and one of the reasons my daughter doesn’t want to sell her as she can hack alone cantering off up the forest with me walking behind with the pram. She has seen all traffic and doesn’t faze her. I don’t think there is many ponies out there that will watch other ponies gallop off up a field and stand and wait until asked to go and even then will only set off in the pace the rider wants her to go. We found that ruby prefers to ride with company rather than on her own and would probably suit a child with an older/younger sibling to ride with, having said that my daughter only rides alone at home and has done for the past 2 years we have never had problems going to competition dressage or hacking alone. My daughter does everything with her from bathing, loading, changing rugs, grooming on her own. She catches her fine (better than me 🙈). Ruby has had ulcers last year which was fully treated, whilst on ulcer treatment and time off she got laminitis so is at risk of this again. We manage this fine in the summer on soaked hay and out during the day. Currently Ruby is stabled at night with normal hay and out in the day. Previous owners happy to give a reference and pony club.
