This is a very hard sale, please no timewasters. My daughter is finding it hard to part with him and he is very much loved by us, she just hasn't kept her part of the bargain which was to stop growing! Looking for a family who will love him and treat him well, no harsh hands :) Based on Nottingham/Derbyshire border.
Rico is a very handsome 13 year old grey gelding. He is 12 hands and a registered Welsh Section A with a green passport. He was bought for my novice daughter who was 10 at the time as her first pony and he has taught her so much and really brought her riding on. I would recommend that he is either a LR or suited to a quiet and confident rider who wants to go out and have some fun with a 2nd pony who enjoys his work. We have known him for almost two years, and before that he was with the same owner from being a 3 year old. With his previous owner he was predominantly shown in hand where he was very successful, and he did some lead rein showing too. With us, he has also successfully shown at a local level, excelling in hand with my daughter (and qualified for STARS both in hand and first ridden), hacked out, and has attended PC rallies. He attends private schooling at our yard and has been out to arena hires too. Rico particularly enjoys mounted games, flat/pole work and hacking (solo or with other ponies are fine, and also happy on the roads with traffic or out in open fields). He is intelligent and a quick learner so likes a variety of work to keep him busy. He has done cross poles, working hunter, small courses of 60cm jumps and has just started learning dressage.
He is very easy to handle on the ground. My daughter catches and brings him in from the field, rugs, picks feet, loads him onto the trailer etc. He can be ridden in from the field bareback with just a headcollar. Perfect for the farrier, vet, dentist, clipping too. He goes out in the day and is stabled overnight currently.
He is on a yard with goats and sheep and is fine around dogs etc. He enjoys company in the field and gets on well with other ponies. He has sweet itch which is easily managed with a sweet itch/fly rug and a turn out hood in the warmest months (will come with these), with turnout overnight and stabling in the day. He stands fine to be groomed. He gets worried by new people fussing him over the stable door or going in the stable with him because of an experience prior to us having him, but is fine with those he knows and trusts (that said, our new farrier trims his feet without a headcollar in his stable and he is perfect for him). We monitor his weight, we've never had any issues but do keep an eye on the grass intake and type of feed he has to make sure sure it stays that way.
He is up to date with vaccinations, dentist, feet (currently barefoot but has had fronts on previously), worming and has been seen by a chiropractor which he was perfect for.
Open to sensible offers as finding the right home for this lovely boy is our priority. and we just want to find the right match. Can come with all rugs and 2 bridles if wanted by seperate negotiation.
