Copper has proved himself a great family hacking pony during the past 12 months we have owned him. He has been ridden by a nervous 9 year old and 6 year old in open fields, woods and streams both on and off the lead rein. When ridden with a regular companion he has proved to be steady with excellent brakes. Definitely more kick than go. However when ridden in a group out hacking he steps up a gear and can be very strong and not suitable for a child. When ridden alone, he has a tendency to nap. We believe with a strong leg, patient rider and consistent work, this can be overcome. We always ride in pairs so this has never been an issue for us. He loves jumping logs on a hack and is happy to jump up to 60cm when out on a ride in the countryside. Enjoys a cross country course but does require lots of leg with a child onboard to maintain a whole course. Has been regularly taken out to sponsored rides and Pony Club rallies. However we feel he does not enjoy life in the arena and we would not want him to go to a show jumping/schooling home or a riding school environment. He is better suited as a happy hacker for a teenager or small adult. We have not taken him hunting but suspect he would enjoy it. Loads well and is fine with farrier, teeth and clipping. Can live in or out. Currently sharing a field with two geldings and has been kind but likes to be the boss! He passed a five star vetting in May 2021 and is up to date with vaccinations, teeth and farrier.
Copper is a very well loved member of our family and is only for sale as my daughter wishes to do show jumping and this is simply not Copper’s favourite thing.
