- Alfie Dark Bay, 6YrO, 16.1hh Gelding. ( TB X Irish Draft) Alfie has 3 lovely and rhythmical paces, producing pleasing work in the school. This will only get better with more balance and co-ordination. He has jumped cross poles and uprights up to a metre at home and has placed over 60cm in his first unaffiliated outing, he’s showing so much scope for more and has not been phased by fillers or anything else he has met so far. Alfie has jumped Cross Country fences, ditches and he has jumped into and out of water. Alfie has been hunted in Ireland, but more recently been cubbing in the UK. He stands politely at the meet and he is sensible and safe around hounds. He does fidget when he is on his own but like everything with Alfie I have no doubt this will improve the more he does. He has jumped hunt rails safely and with scope. I have taken Alfie to several fun rides, he’s a very pleasant, comfy ride, and is happy to bimble along and have people over take or keep up the pace and crack on. He will pop what ever comes in front of him and is comfortable in large groups or on his own. As with any outing I’ve taken him too he’s always acted in a mature way, very sensible in collecting rings and stands and waits like a dream. He is not silly or strong in open spaces and always snaffle mouthed. He is great to hack, going first, last or alone; regularly seeing all types of traffic! You can go days with no riding and get back on him with no worries. He will stand to open gates if you take your time. Good to load into trailer or lorry and travels well. Good to shoe, clip, groom, pull mane, bath and generally faff with. Will ride and lead. Has hacked with bicycles and dogs. Alfie’s temperament is 100% what you’d look for in a big horse, never bossy or bolshy, Alfie’s stable manners are to die for, he is very easy to have in a yard and a wonderful kind face over the door. He turns out on his own, or in company and is happy to be left. His attitude when out and about is no different to at home, easy going, will travel tacked up or no problems tacking up at the event. Fabulous with children. Alfie is a loving horse that adores company and attention, neighs at you when he sees you and always comes to call. HOWEVER, he can be timid and unsure on occasions, more so with you on the ground rather than ridden. Alfie is still fairly green but will no doubt go far with the right patient rider! Up to date with vacs, teeth, shoeing etc. I’ve had Alfie for the summer whilst my own horse was injured. Lack of stable space is hurrying his sale.
