Show Jumping, Dressage and Hunting
Bella - Exceptionally talented competition mare, quirky but kind, looking for a new home 🏡. Suitable SJ/Dressage/Hunting pony. Reg Welsh Sec C bay mare, rising 11yo, roughly 13.2hh. Bella is a superb showjumper, she never touches a pole - even on a bad stride. She is very conscientious & careful over a fence but she needs gutsy rider to match her enthusiasm - if the rider is nervous/interferes too much she is liable to put a stop in, for this reason she is not a novice ride. She's currently jumping up to 1.05 - 1.10m with a 14yo girl and has plenty of clear rounds under her belt at 80cm and 90cm. She is agile & quick on the turn making her competitive against the clock. This pony has the ability & scope to jump 1.20m+ tracks. Bella has an elastic and expressive walk, she floats in the trot with exceptional ground cover, the canter is rangey and balanced, she has a super elastic hock-action and a powerful back-end making her a very impressive dressage pony - all of which also gives her an edge in the showjumping ring. Bella would excel on the flat for someone willing to give her the time to relax in the dressage ring. Occasional tension/separation anxiety when travelling with another horse has let her down in the past. However, she has achieved scores of 70%+ when she is confident! She has many top 3 placings under her belt at prelim and novice level (unaff). Even with her nerves she will still pull off 65%+ scores, so she will be truly phenomenal when she finds relaxation in the ring. She works well laterally and is schooling Elementary at home. She has also competed at Felbridge Combined training to come 2nd in the BE80 class. Bella has been out with the hounds on two occasions and she has behaved IMPECCABLY throughout. She takes comfort from being in a pack of horses and doesn't play up/get silly. She is snaffle mouthed even out hunting. Bella has been tried XC, she will school very well up to BE100cm in training situations, however she isn't confident going out solo in a XC environment. For that reason I don't think she would be suited to eventing, but she will happily do sponsored rides, arena eventing and XC schooling in company. She could be a potential event project for someone willing to give it a go. She is quite happy to jump XC fences in an arena environment - she has competed at arena eventing producing multiple clear rounds and a 7th place (70 & 80). On the ground Bella is a delight to handle, she is very good to lead, never strong or silly. She enjoys attention and loves a groom and a pampering session. She will turn out alone or in company. She is very good to bath, for farrier & vet, she can be a bit tricky for dentist but with a patient approach she is manageable without sedation (happy to provide a report from my dentist if needed). She is good to load - occasionally a little sticky if she goes on first but will always go up with some encouragement from behind. Has travelled very well in a trailer & lorry. Bella is very comfortable in an arena environment but outside the arena she requires a buddy for company, she will hack well in open spaces, go in front or behind, and has even hacked solo around our fields but can be slightly nappy heading away from home without a horse or human to lead from. She is good to hack on the road but ONLY in company, she will threaten to rear if asked to go out solo on roads. She can be spooky at times, and sharp with her shoulder, she doesn't spin - just 'splats' or props. Very rarely will she spook at home in the school - more so in new environments. I repeat, she is NOT a novice ride for this reason. She's never ever got me off from a spook - she really isn't one to want to put you on the floor, if anything she will try to keep you on board if you get unseated. Bella has been with me for 2 years, she has been a sales project but I've kept hold of her as she's been such a fun pony to produce and she has taught me so much! When she trusts her rider she really does give you her all. I'm now happy that she's seen enough of the world to now further a child or teenagers riding career. Based on a yard with excellent trial facilities West Sussex/Surrey borders (RH12).
