- Tommy is a 14-year-old, 11.2hh registered Welsh Section A gelding who we have owned for the last 5 ½ years. He has taken my VERY nervous daughter from a clingy 3 year old novice lead rein jockey to happily trotting round a course of jumps on her own. He copes with the wobbliest of novices and has had to tolerate my daughters non horsey friends coming over for a ride. He is happy on the lead rein and will follow you round like a dog off the LR running by him. He also goes nicely completely off lead rein as well and has never reared, bucked etc. My daughter is an active member of the Pony Club and they have been involved in all the mini events from PPC games, 30-40cm SJ, dressage, xc, fun rides and camps. He hunted a lot with his previous owners and was lead from another horse. We have attended children’s meets and stood on Malpas High Street as good as gold during the boxing day meet. He is more woah than go but he is very responsive to the voice and leg so even the smallest of jockeys can get him going without the need for a ‘pony club kick’. He has a lovely natural head carriage so would do well in showing as well. His only downfall, if you can call it that, is his reluctance to canter. He has a very fast welshie trot!! He will canter on the LR and put the occasional stride of canter in when he is jumping off LR. A more confident jockey can get him to canter for longer. Up until now this has been more of a blessing knowing he’s not going to run off with the littlest of riders, but now my daughter wants to start cantering. He is fit and ready to start a new season with his next little jockey wanting to learn the ropes. Never sick or sorry and has never had laminitis. He lives in at night or out all year round, on his own or with a herd. He is the easiest pony to do and trustworthy around children. This is a heartbreaking sale of my daughters first pony, and we would like to keep in touch, so no dealers or joy riders. References are available from the DC and instructors if need be.
