Absolutely heartbreaking sale of Secret, due to riders ill health. I’ve been putting this off for the past year but I have realised I will never be well enough to do this horse justice or be consistent enough in her ridden work.
16.3-17hh ISH mare, 6yrs old and owned from a yearling. Secret came straight to me from her mum so I know this horse inside out, all her flaws are my own!
Secret was a bogoff, owners bought mum and secret popped out a few months later. Mum is a Dassett mare so King of Diamond and Clover Hill lines, dad was an ISH colt so she is standard BHS passported but with good genes.
Secret has seen all traffic inc farm equipment and is unphased, she is fine with livestock, in fact she loves cows and isn’t a spooky ride, she would rather stand and analyse than react. However she is a sharp sensitive horse to ride and requires an experienced rider otherwise she will take the mickey. The same can be said for her on the ground. Polite to handle if you are consistent, show weakness and she’s a killer!
She has popped a couple of small fences and is showing promise.
I broke Secret myself when she was a 3yr old, she was straight forward and hacking away in 1000acres all on her own within weeks. She was ridden away for a couple of months then turned away for winter. She was then bought back into work the following summer but developed sand cracks in her hooves and had the rest of the year and winter off whilst her feet came good. She’s a big horse so it’s taken her a long time to grow and fill her giant frame so the slow start has benefited her massively. I suffered a stroke in the Sept so she has basically been doing some light hacking since.
She loads well, good for the vet, dentist, can be fidgety to shoe but is fine given time, she just doesn’t like to be bullied into anything.
She is a blank canvass that has been given time to mature into her size and is now ready to go and show the world what she is capable of.
