- Full Information Below:
Patsys Lad (Laddi) is a beautiful 16.3hh Palomino, Irish Sports Horse, who I purchased from a reputable riding school in England.
I’ve had Laddi since May 2021 and am selling him through no fault of his own. Due to now starting a new job and going to university, unfortunately, I just don’t have the time to give him what he deserves.
Laddi is not suitable for novices, he is not naughty but he is still quite green. Laddi absolutely loves his work, which is why we’re looking for someone that has time for a bit more of a “project horse” and can commit to riding roughly 4/5 times a week. He also needs someone confident when in the school as he is still quite green. He also loves treats, carrots and his food.
Turn Out:
He has been turned out with mares and geldings (and a Shetland) and is absolutely fine. He is definitely bottom of the pecking order but loves to be able to “socialise” with other horses. He is used to being turned out in the day and brought in at night in the winter months and turned out at night and brought in in the morning during the summer months. He is not used to being left out all the time. He is used to having fuss and being loved, so the home he goes to is definitely important to me.
Hacking/Schooling:
He hasn’t hacked since 2022. Prior to this he was out hacking regularly. Due to this, I’d still say he’s green in this area. I do think that to begin with, when bringing him back into hacking, he would be best suited to hacking in company before someone tries to hack alone with him.
As mentioned above, Laddi absolutely loves his school work and learning new things. Due to a lack of time, I have been having someone ride him regularly to keep him in work. He can walk, trot, canter and enjoys pole work too. As he’s still quite green, he hasn’t done much jumping, so currently has only done small fences.
Important to Note:
Unfortunately, I am finding Laddi goes intermittently lame in the summer months. I have had the vets out numerous times and had x-rays done (which can be provided along with any other relevant records before purchase). I do believe that experimenting with different shoes or trialling something different for his feet in the summer months could help resolve this, as well as some physio as we do think that the soreness could be as a result of the ground.
Other information:
There are 2 dogs on the yard where Laddi currently is and he is absolutely fine with them (if anything sometimes he thinks he’s one of them!). He is given hay as normal and then his chaff and pony nuts at meal time (I can give the exact brands if you wish to carry on with the same one he’s used to). He has the farrier out every 5/6 weeks. He has his hoofs oiled daily. His feet are always picked out when being brought back in after turn out.
The following can also be purchased separately:
⁃ A saddle (with stirrups, girth and a saddle pad)
⁃ A head collar and rope
⁃ A bridle (with bit and reins as well as a martingale - although he’s not ridden with this)
⁃ A crop
⁃ A grooming kit
⁃ Rugs
⁃ Numnahs
If the equipment is purchased altogether, then a better price can be agreed.
