The Royal Mews is the department that supplies all coaches and cars for State and official occasions. The Royal Mews is also responsible for caring for and training our carriage horses, maintaining the coaches and keeping all working vehicles in pristine condition. In this role at the Royal Mews, you'll manage our team of dedicated Liveried Helpers, who care for some of the most photographed horses in the world. Key responsibilities • As the subject matter expert, you’ll lead and guide the Liveried Helpers in the exercising and training of the carriage horses. You’ll be a key source of advice, and your knowledge will be relied upon to ensure both the team and horse are ready to perform at ceremonial events. • By driving your team's performance, you will prioritise their continuous development, enabling them to achieve their full potential. • You’ll be responsible for developing team rotas, maintaining stock levels of feed and bedding, developing risk assessments for equine activity and the maintenance of all financial accounts. • This role will challenge you and enhance your management skills. And the standards you'll aim for will provide the biggest challenge, and the greatest reward. After all, the results of you and your team's work will be seen by a global audience. • The post holder with need to be flexible to travel between Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace. Essential Criteria: • With a passion for your work, you’ll ideally have experience in either driving horses or postilion driving and ideally be a qualified Riding Instructor. • It’s important that you’re a highly capable and confident rider, with an ability and willingness to acquire knowledge of driving carriages and of state harnesses. • It’s vital that you have strong people management skills and enjoy motivating and developing others. With previous supervisory experience and proficiency in all aspects of stable management, you’ll be confident leading the daily activities of the team. • Perceptive and resourceful, you’ll also be a good decision maker, able to quickly assess a situation, before finding a solution and responding quickly. • Both an organised and flexible approach will be important in order to effectively prioritise your workload. • With proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude, you’re an outstanding team player, and get the best out of those you work with. • A strong communicator you’ll be confident in liaising with stakeholders at all levels.
