Description: Danny – 13.1hh Gelding from the New Forest Being completely honest (and with a good dose of humour!), we’ve done exactly what everyone tells you not to do… we’ve put a novice rider on a novice pony! As much as we absolutely adore Danny, and as much as my daughter loves him, we’ve realised he just isn’t the right match for our 8-year-old. We’ve had some wonderful adventures together, including stay-away shows, fun rides, dressage, cross-country and ODEs, and Danny has always proved himself to be brave, willing and up for anything. Previous to us he has hunted too. Danny is a striking 13.1hh gelding who is genuinely afraid of nothing. Water, ditches, planks, fillers, banks, stay-away shows and fun rides—he takes it all in his stride. He is a forward-thinking pony who loves having a job to do and isn’t a kick-along type. He thrives with a confident rider who wants to get out, have fun and make the most of his enthusiasm. Out hacking, Danny is absolutely golden. Cars, tractors, bikes and general traffic don’t faze him, and he’s equally happy being led from my mare or hacking out on his own. He is the sort of pony I genuinely trust, which is why this decision has been so difficult. The reality is that my daughter is happiest jumping 30cm and, like many children learning, she still relies on her reins for balance at times. Danny deserves a rider who can ride him positively and independently, while my daughter deserves a quieter confidence-giving pony. Sadly, they’re just not the right partnership. In the right hands, I genuinely believe Danny will go a very long way. He is everything I would want in a horse—brave, genuine, talented and full of potential. Whether it’s Pony Club, mounted games, hunting, racing, dressage, showjumping, cross-country or being an all-round competition pony, I truly believe he has what it takes to be an absolute superstar. Despite being forward, Danny is genuine and honest. He has never bucked, reared or shown any nasty behaviour with us. He simply enjoys going forward and is looking for a rider who wants the same. He is a pleasure to have around the yard—easy to catch, loads beautifully, is barefoot and stands well for the farrier, and is fantastic for both the vet and dentist. He’s also excellent around dogs and goats, taking them all in his stride. He will be sold with his saddle and bridle. This is a very genuine and honest sale. The only mistake I’ve made is expecting Danny to be the right pony for my 8-year-old—that’s on me, not him. Finding him the right home is far more important to us than a quick sale, and I can’t wait to watch him go on and fulfil the potential I know he has.
