Description: Dodmore Derik — 16hh Shire Cross Gelding, 6 Years Old Dodmore Derik is a truly striking 16hh Shire cross gelding, just 6 years old, with the temperament to match his impressive presence. Derik has been on professional schooling livery with Tom Reilly for the last 18 months, and in that time has developed into a genuine, honest, and enjoyable ride. He hacks beautifully on the quiet country lanes local to us here in Cheshire — steady, sensible, and a pleasure to be out on. He is equally happy in company or alone, and whilst he is no pushover, he is not sharp, spooky or strong. What he does have is a lovely, responsive engine — light off the leg and with a surprisingly elevated, lighter feel than you might expect from a gentleman of his frame. He has had schooling added to his work and is going very nicely. On the ground, Derik is sensible and straightforward for his age. Easy to catch and handle, good for the farrier, and has travelled well. He has excellent feet and is happily barefoot with no need for shoes. We will be honest — he is not keen on clipping, but for a young horse of his size he is genuinely easy to manage day to day. Please note: Derik does have a minor medical history, genuine buyers please ask for further information. This does not effect his ridden career This has been a truly difficult decision for his owner, who is sadly giving up riding due to arthritis in her hands. Derik is far too special to spend his days just being cuddled and brushed — he deserves to be out enjoying life with someone who can give him the active, loving future he merits.
