- Description
- Crystal is a 13.1hh, 13 year old mare. Crystal is a fun, responsive pony. Whilst she is forward, she never hots up or gets silly and she's not fast and furious like a true competition pony. She has never bucked, reared or bolted and we have owned her for nearly 7 years. My daughter moved on to horses 4 years ago, but we kept Crystal so we could hack together.
Crystal is a true all rounder and has experienced pretty much every Pony club activity including SJ, XC, Dressage, Games, Rallies, Camps and a pony racing experience day. She has also been on hound exercise a number of times, Children's meets and Autumn hunting, where she has behaved impeccably. She has also been to the beach and done a pairs hunter trial.
Hacking in company, Crystal is an uncomplicated ride. She prefers to go behind and will follow the lead horse in any gait. She is excellent in all traffic, safe in open spaces, even ones she has cantered in many times before and has good brakes. She is brilliant to box out hacking too and always sensible. She will hack out alone, and I have done so many times, but this would need to be worked on with a new owner. She is fine with a person on foot/bike.
Schooling, Crystal has a lovely uphill canter. She would benefit from being schooled occasionally by a small adult to remind her to bend correctly etc, but it's all there.
Crystal takes confidence from her rider and needs a fairly confident jockey. Not because she is dangerous in any way, but because she needs a child to kick on if she is unsure. She prefers to compete in arenas she is familiar with. When she was jumping regularly she was happy up to 60/70cm, but this will need building back up to with a new partnership. She can lack confidence in new arenas, but this is easily rectified by walking her around a couple of times to show her there are no monsters. If you are happy to work with her and her foibles she is a fantastic pony.
Crystal has mostly hacked the last few years but we have been ticking her over with some low level jumping occasionally. She had a year off in 2025 to raise a foal and is now back in work. It will not take much to get her back out doing more again.
