- Description
- A very well bred true to type 9 year old, 14.2hh Connemara mare. A nice quality working hunter type.
KT is a kind, gentle, friendly girl to have around and a pleasure to handle. She is also straightforward in the herd, and mixes well with mares or geldings, living in or out.
KT has mostly been used as a family horse hacking out and hunting. She prefers hacking in company, will happily take the lead, and has seen all traffic (cars, vans, tractors, bin lorries, etc.). She is a safe ride and does not do anything dangerous and brakes are always excellent in all situations. She is safe enough for a lady in her 60s with double hip replacement to regularly ride and hack out. She is less confident hacking on her own and takes reassurance from her rider. She is also good ride and lead from another horse. And vice versa she will happily take a pony out on lead whilst being ridden.
Up until recently she had minimal understanding of aids and moving her body in more ways than just straight, understandable with her background of mostly straight lines. She has responded well to a Natural Horsemanship approach, showing her things on the ground and then under saddle. We feel she has been rushed and pressured by riders who presumed she ‘knew’ her job, which only made her worried and resistant. Taking an approach of explaining things to her, and giving her time to process before responding, has really helped her progress. She is a sensitive, light to respond mare if she feels you’ve explained and asked politely. If she understands you can get a response with the lightest aids. If overfaced she becomes a bit ‘stuck’ which can be misinterpreted as lazy. A firm hand only makes it worse. When unconfident, she needs time to understand without feeling rushed or forced.
We would like to see KT settled in a long term home. We are looking for someone empathetic and knowledgable, a confident rider able to reassure her when she gets worried. Would suit a Parelli/Warwick Schiller/Natural horsemanship home. Equally someone who wants to participate in fun rides, working hunter, showing, or hunting. Ideally looking for a home where she is hacked in company or with someone who will be patient whilst she learns her new surroundings. With the right approach, she will be a truly wonderful mare for someone, she is the sort that will give you her heart once you become her person.
Full bill of health and has not wanted for anything. Up to date with farrier, vaccinations, dentist, deworming. Regular massage, physio and saddle fitter. Negative for Hoof Wall Disease. Passed a 5-stage vetting on 26 September 2025. Back X-ray clear.
Excellent breeding and conformation. 3 x 80 scores for conformation, breed standard, and movement. Pedigree includes: Calowfeenish Mairtin and Abbeyleix Owen. Sire: Park Ronan. Dam: By the famous Templebready Fear Bui; herself in the dam line of Class 1 stallion Ross Joe.
Will make a great asset to any all-rounder home. Not currently hunting fit but enjoys hunting and has a great jump.
Owner would like to stay in touch. Will not be sold to a dealer.
Includes tack and rugs
