Description
We have been back-and-forth with this decision for about 6 months now but have come to terms with the fact that our beautiful Saffy isn’t fulfilling any little persons dreams anymore and at such a young age has so many more years to give, therefore our girl is looking for her new bestie. Saffy 12.2 black cobX (some welsh in there i think) 10 year old mare, where do I begin? We have owned Saffy for 6 years now and she has done literally EVERYTHING. Countless Pleasure rides (minimum one monthly), beach rides, endurance rides, SJ shows, endless arena hires, hacking. She schools beautifully and has a lovely jump on her will go steady for a smaller rider and pick up the pace for the more experienced rider my daughter has jumped 80cm on her at XC however she’s sitting very comfortably at 60/70cm. Loves the water. Has done XC, clinics, PC, arena eventing. We are being selective when we look for her next best friend my daughter got Saffy when she was just turned 6 and they love each other dearly Saffy took a little time to settle and may do this again in her new home but as my daughter put in the time with her she became an exceptional first pony. My daughter is now a teenager and onto horses her little sister intimittantly riders her but is in no way interested in horses or riding regularly (hopes on once every other month, which Saffy is very accommodating and looks after her (videos of this on request to show). Saffy has looked after my eldest so much and taught her how to properly ride over the years. We want Saffy’s education to carry on with a capable child. No lead reins or nervous/novice children saffy has way too much potential to miss out on years of future opportunities and adventures like she had with my daughter. We have the ponies at home on a private 10 acre farm with a 60 x 40 arena which she is schooled in most days when we aren’t out and about. She is schooled lovely and is great with poles, fillers etc, she can have a little spook if a pigeon flys out the bush but nothing that would unseat an established rider. Good stable manners; doesn’t kick etc, ties well on the yard the children can rug/tack up pick feet out she’s amazing. She knows her boundaries with us she stands with the stable door open gets a head collar put on and waits for her rug to be put on, thrives on routine, she may get rude if treats are being given as this was what she was like when we got her which we quickly got out of her with no treats and firm boundaries. This pony being a typical welsh thrives on rules and routine, give this pony an inch she will take a mile, this applies to groundwork and riding. My daughter can lunge in a head collar no problem and has done for years. Saffy is voice command trained and super responsive. Loves to please loves praise! A Proper hardy type never lame, sorry, sick never any medical issues and no concerns. Barefoot always has been and great feet stands like a dream for the farrier very patient, trimmed every 7-8 weeks. Up to date with back, teeth, saddle fitted correctly and vaccinations. My daughter canters and jumps her out in open fields she won’t leave her horse buddy she’s hacking with or the human on foot she’s best in front when hacking but will also go side to side ideally not behind as may panic she’s being left behind just wants to catch up all the time to her hacking buddy. She will happily hack alone, good in traffic. For years when my daughter was small and inexperienced I rode and led Saffy off my horse (walk trot and canter.) Very good breaks one pull and your back to trot or walk even when your out galloping, snaffle mouthed, bareback ridden and jumped by my daughter. Great with others at shows in the warm up and listens and takes all her confidence from the rider. Loads herself, and travels well (may get impatient as leaving and arriving back at the yard if she’s on her own) but travels great from there on her own and with company. Can get attached quickly to another horse and will follow them around the field like a lost puppy and can stress if left alone (we do not want that for saffy she is best with herd friends) stands like a dream to be clipped and hosed, bathed, vet etc. Not too keen on spray bottles. Will go with the flow of your routine, stabled or out 24/7 (which she is now and suits her great) on the odd occasion we bring them in it’s weather related. Turned out with mares and geldings: young/old. She’s bottom of the herd sadly and will get chased off food she doesn’t have a back bone in the field with others bigger than her. Great with dogs and the quad/tractor etc. She is very use to busy family life, the children riding their bikes up and down, jumping on the trampoline and she will happily graze or watch. My daughter jumps on her rugged back and rides her down to the field and she’s easy peasy. We love our baby very much and what she has done for my daughter over the years has moulded my daughter into the confident correct rider she is now. Saffy is one in a millions and I have no doubt she will continue to be the pony she’s been for us for her next family. References from the lovely lady I bought her from who I’m still in contact with all them years ago. (When she was used for all their children also) Hundreds of videos and photos but to feel the true love of safe you need to meet her.
